For the financial year 2009-10 Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set target of revenue recovery of Rs 61.23 crore through various taxes. The BMC has set target of recovery of Rs 36.22 crore through property tax, Rs 14 crore through water cess, Rs 60 lakh as electricity charges, Rs 20 lakh as business tax, Rs 5.55 crore through advertisement and Rs 4.06 crore from other taxes.
To achieve the target BMC administration has served notice on defaulters for attachment of property. Besides this demand note has been served to property tax payees for current financial year. The BMC employees are going to the houses of defaulters and asking them to pay the due tax.
Under these circumstances in the last month of financial year BMC commissioner Manish Singh has given instructions to keep ward offices open on holidays too. From now onwards ward offices will open at 9 am and close at 7 pm. Revenue Department officers informed that those wards from which recovery is slow and where number of defaulters is too much in those wards camps will be organised. The officers maintained that besides the defaulters tax payees should deposit tax of current financial year and for the same strictness will be observed. Zonal officers have been given instructions to give report of recovery every day. Now tax payees can deposit tax on all seven days in the week from 9 am to 7 pm.
